Q: What can unregistered visitors see?
A: Unregistered visitors to the site can only see the Welcome Section, and the Medical Info Section. I wanted to keep as much of the actual activity private as possible, so all other sections are visible and accessible to members only. And the Sexual Abuse Survivor's section, additionally, is only visible and accessible to members of that group list (who must be added manually and by request only).
Q: What kind of Cancers are considered Gynecological?
A: Right now we specifically support members with Uterine, Ovarian, Cervical, Vaginal, and Vulvar Cancers.
Q: Why not just offer support to ANY Cancer patient, or even any under the age of 40?
A: Gynecological Cancers specifically tend to be an older woman's issue. As a result the under 40 demographic tends to get overlooked, and their specific needs aren't always attended to. Additionally, facing gynecological cancers often means making big decisions about your reproductive options. The way you approach those decisions as a 20 or 30 year old, is very different from how you approach them as a 50 or 60 year old. In my own process, I really felt like I needed more understanding and support about that part of the process.
Q: Ok, but I'm 40-50 yrs old and I could use support too!
A: Join. I'm not going to set a firm age limit that kicks out someone who is over the age of 40. My intention though is that this board remains primarily as a place of support for younger women whose priorities and challenges most often differ from older Gynecological Cancer patients. It's not about excluding older cancer patients, it's about servicing a demographic that is often overlooked and underrepresented.
